17. Bentley Le Baron - Le Baron Studio

Studio location: 4200 Beaver drive

Bentley started working with clay while he was pursuing his Doctorate in Political Philosophy at London School of Economics. To augment his scholarship, he worked as a model for the Slade School of Fine Art, where he started to learn sculpture. 

Although he did teach Political Science and work as a consultant for social impact assessment studies for many years, he continued to learn and love working with clay. In 1979 he moved to Denman to apprentice fulltime with Gordon Hutchens. He had his own studio here, where he created dinnerware and creative sculptural pieces for the next 44 years. He died in September at the age of 87.

This show includes the last of Bentley’s sculpture and paintings as well as a few pieces of his dinnerware sets. Primarily he was known for his magical beasts and fanciful critters, but his paintings are amazing.
