9. Doug Burpee - Tristone Studios

Studio location: 2201 Tristone Road

Doug is a mixed media artist interested in the design process. His work varies from functional, sculptural furniture using wood/metal/stone to lighting, stone carving and sculpture. He often combines metal and other media using the organic shapes and patinas in the creative process. Inspired by the Japanese art form kintsugi, Doug prefers to use materials that are flawed or broken, incorporating different media to create a unique story in each piece.

Trained as a stone mason, Doug restored many historic stone buildings as well as designing and building unique stone structures before settling on Denman where he works out of his studio when not riding a bike or digging in the garden.
