9. Dakota Burpee - Tristone Studios

Studio location: 2201 Tristone Road

Dakota Burpee is a textile artist informed by an embodied practice throughout the process of making.

She works from a studio on Taystay'ich (Denman Island) and in Cumberland, moving between the two.

She primarily weaves on a wooden floor loom, uses natural dyes, spins fibre, and sews garments.

Dakota received a BFA in Textiles and Fashion from NSCAD University (2021) and is a current MFA

candidate at Emily Carr University.

Dakota has been part of residencies, workshops and courses across the world and is immersed in learning.

She has become the new owner of West & Co Consignment since May 2025 in Cumberland,

where her joy for clothing and community comes together. 

Weaving is a teacher in how to slow down and unite the mind and body. Inspired by woven textiles that

last through generations, she considers how the warp and weft threads are embedded with story.
